Founded
in 1987 by Jaime Rosenbluth, Montreal’s Bicycletterie JR on rue Rachel has become one of the city’s premier
bicycle shops
for repairs, troubleshooting, custom and made-to-order bicycles,
hand-built
wheels and hard-to-find parts. As a neighborhood bike shop, we also
offer
winter bicycle storage as well as a full fleet of 50 brand-new rental
bikes at
competitive rates, so that visitors to Montreal
can enjoy our city—the bicycle path outside our door, incidentally, is
connected to the city-wide network and leads right to the top of Mount Royal.
What sets
Bicycletterie JR apart from most bike shops is the fact that we will
work on
just about any bike and actually fix it, if at all possible. We’ve
heard
hundreds of times from our customers that other shops have told them
that their
bike could not be fixed, that it was time for a replacement, and
hundreds of
times we have fixed those very same bikes. So bring us your bike and we
will give
it a thorough inspection to see if it can indeed be fixed. We’ll give
you a
detailed repair cost estimate so you can decide whether it should be
repaired
or replaced.
We pride
ourselves on our honesty, reliability, and the quality of our work is
backed by
a 100% satisfaction guarantee. In the rare instance that a bike isn’t
repaired
to a customer’s satisfaction, we will do the work over again and make
it right,
or else explain why it can’t be done.
We carry a huge
inventory of repair parts, tires and accessories for nearly any bike in
the
market. Since recycling is a cornerstone of our operating philosophy,
we try to
re-use any parts that still have any utility. As a result, in addition
to our
stock of new parts, we also have an enormous collection of used, rare,
and
obscure parts that aid us in our daily problem-solving efforts. In
keeping with
our Earth conscious philosophy, we strive to find and use local
recycling
programs to decrease our environmental footprint. This includes, but is
not
limited to, recycling all of our paper, cardboard, steel, aluminum,
rubber and
chemical waste. Note that we do this out of genuine concern for the
environment
and not for the financial benefit of recycling, since there is still
little
incentive for this.
We also pride
ourselves on our ability to read, use and order from catalogs—
definitely a
lost art in the bicycle shop business! Many times we’ll hear from our
customers
that they were told certain parts are no longer available, when that
often
isn’t the case. If we don’t have a part that you need in stock, we’ll
be happy
to order it for you.
It
is not for nothing that Bicycletterie JR has
become a well-known landmark in Montreal’s
Plateau Mont-Royal district, and has been spotlighted in the Micheline,
Ulysses
and Guide des Routards tourist
guides, amongst others. Our reputation says it all, and that is because
we are
